I am guessing the tractor had an automatic transmission and was in gear It looked like the man started the tractor by jumping the starter solenoid but had forgotten to mske sure it was out of gear.

Frank I think that bad boy has a clutch. I used to have a Nissan pickup truck and a Jeep like that. It was really handy in the Jeep. If the engine wouldn't start you could drive (very) short distances on the starter. Put it into 4 low and back the thing up onto a hill or concrete barrier so you could get under it easier.
