It was circa 1960 and the card just meant you didn’t have to pay “then and there” for clothing items, but you had weeks to pay them off. Back then the “card” was an embossed metal card which even came in its own suede protective sleeve.
I think the first credit cards we had as I was growing up were Sears & Roebuck and the Montgomery Ward Charge cards As I recall they were almost never used Mom said those were to be used in case of an emergency only. I live by that philosophy still to this day. I might use my debit cards frequently but never my credit cards
