    Hi all . I just have to comment on this . I live about an hour from this marine railway and it is the same scene on the Severn river . The long run is going down to the lower river and it comes up over the road which is just higher than the upper river water level . The vertical distance is 60 feet . Apparently they were originally going to put in 3 locks back in about 1914 and this was built as a temporary marine railway finished in 1917 . Notice the word " temporary " , I guess it is working out OK .
