Metal brake
I'm Greg. Currently a machinist/fabricated for a biomedical instrumentation company. I design and build tools to support the assembly of our products.
I also build items for my own personal use because I firmly believe in building vs buying. Started checking out this sight to get ideas and now I'm addicted. Lookin to throw together a sheet metal brake at some point. Sick of having to use angle iron in my bench vise or my black and decker work mate. Lookin for some clever designs

Hi Greg,
I'm building a magnetic sheet metal bender. It's not easy but interesting !
Now it looks like this :

Hi Greg. If you go to Village Press, they have 2 magazines you should read. Homeshop machinist & Machinists Workshop. They have a library that includes how to build a box & pan brake. I have read the articles & think you should also. They will tell you how to build one. mdhatter3

Hello Georgesg09. Nice sheet metal brake. Looks very heavy duty & looks well used. I hope when I get the time to build mine, its this strong. What is the sheetmetal thickness that you can bend & how wide a piece can you bend?
-
Hello MdHatter3 I can bend 48" inches wide but I am limited by the withe of my sheer which is 36" wide, If I have a narrow strip of sheet metal 48" inches long then I can bend it to make a molding...
The Max thickness is about 1/16" inch but I can make brackets a max of 2" wide by 1/8" inch thick , I have to clamp the hold down whit the 3/8" inch threaded rod you see in the photo or the bend will be square at the ends and whit a radii at the center , I cannot use the 3/8" inch clamps for a bend 48" inch long by more than 2" inches In other words I can bend a channel whit 2" inch sides by what ever withe by a max of 48" inches .
This shows that my brake could be stronger, When clamped the week spot is where the channel is welded to the male part of the hinge,
If You have any more questions Your welcome,
Georgesg09
