Mill / Drill Clamping Steel Work Rest

Hi All,

I spend a lot of time going back and forth from drilling and milling on my ENCO 105-1110 milling machine and I wanted a way to be able to minimize the need to pull off the vise and switch tooling. I had made a wooden work rest that held up for a few months but it was quickly deteriorating. Time for an upgrade.

This is a simple project, but I feel its a very important one. It turns any drill press or milling machine with a vise into a more versatile and efficient machine. Hope you get something out of it. - Brian House

Miniature milling table

One of the most useful things I did in that project was, after construction, to mount the table in the vise and mill two of the edges so they were parallel to the motion of the mill table. Then I added removable fences to both those edges. This allows me to do many setups and alignments right on the table.

You might want to do something similar. If you do, be sure to stamp a mark into the table so that you always insert the table in the vise in the same attitude as used when the edges were milled.
