    Wouldn't it be better to just clamp the plate to the table? That is the foundation for anything used on top it.

    Original, but over thunk'ed.
    Leveling (or most any positioning efforts) are best accommodated by 3 bearing points. Depending on adjustment range needed, most can be done with 2 jackscrews, the third usually remains undisturbed. Fine thread pitches work best. As to the plate, it's hard to beat a resurfaced disc brake rotor, drilled and tapped for long set-screws.

    Agreed. Leveling against the vise body is pointless; especially when compared to machine table (or bed of the mounted vise/ fixture).
