Setting parts square in some types of milling vices can be challenging if they have no centre section. This fixture uses the long solid top of the fixed jaw as a datum. The horizontal part is long & heavy to hold it down in position along the vice jaw. The vertical reference sits well below the jaw & also protrudes above for maximum engagement with the part.
