No sorry at all Marv, Glad to have all the information about the area. Like you mentioned, maybe someone else will find
some new location that they can visit.

Thanks to both of you for pointing out these museums. I might have to make a Southern CA trip soon.

I don't want to be accused of "spoiling" something, so I'll just say be sure to scroll all the way to the end of jjr2001's photos. After all those miniatures, there's a very large object hanging on the wall. (And yes, I know what it is and how to use it!) What an amazing place - thanks so much for sharing!

I sense a field trip a comin'. To my good fortune I am married to a woman who thinks my primary purpose in life is to ferry her to just such museums. My reward is her paintings. Below is a watercolor detail (image size 14" X 18.5") of a seed drill from the Lubbock, TX Bayer Museum of Agriculture, for whom she also created the cover for their 2014 calendar. For those interested, near the Bayer is a collection of many shapes and sizes of windmill.Miniature Craftsmanship Museum-planes.jpg

I thought I knew how to use it too so I pulled mine out and guess what - I don't know after all

One of my all time favorite tools. Especially the 6" model that was used to calculate the final burn that brought the Apollo 13 Astronauts back home.

Best museum ever. (outside of the Smithsonian).

I think that is the Jolly Greens Pocket Picket isn't it?

Thanks JR, Great Picks and on my places list for a while now. I ran onto the website while rabbit hole diving on Tatjana Joëlle van Vark and her Harmonium (Mechanical Fourier Analysis and Synthesis machine)...amazing woman and probably top and almost makes me well up is her "restored Litton LN3-2A inertial navigator platform"...pic on the picture. Hopefully I'll get to spend a day or 5 in the area.

I think the pocket would be even much bigger than the Jolly Greens pants!
In the past on eBay I had seen some 4' class room demonstrators for sale but this one is the king.

Well inertial platform eh? That was my AFSC in the Air Force. Worked on the one for the F4 Phantom but then had the opportunity to go
back to school for the F111A. Spent 5 months in Denver at Lowry AFB...Great duty.

I still have a small collection of slide rules which includes one 6" pocket similar to the one that was on Apollo 13. That one will go to the grand kids.
Yep, they know what a slide rule is since I bring up the subject from time to time.

Well hope you get to the Museum PJ, a day or more would be great.

    Cheers, JR

Thanks for all the info posted!

I had been to San Diego a number of times for work, but only got to tour the Midway aircraft carrier. I did not realize the other museums were there. I did know about the Zoo.

Looks like Carlsbad is not that far up the road...

I did like SD... LA, not so much...

Carlsbad is a great area to visit. It is our Southern California go to city. Gave up on LA many years ago.
For us the travel from AZ is quite nice. We go over the mountains from Palm Springs and take the back roads thru Temecula. Way less traffic and a nice drive.
The Midway is awesome and Balboa park has a nice aircraft museum. Many other museums there including an automobile and model train museum.
    Great vacation places.

    Cheers, JR
