    Frank S's Tools
Constructing miniaturized copies of semi tractors was all the rage in the early 90s after Dodge installed the Cummins 6 bt in their pickups. many were built at what was called the 5/8s scale but that scale cold not hold true dimensions throughout the build as the cabs turned out to be too cramped for long term comfort the scale was revised up to 3/4 scale which worked better however in order for a sleeper berth to meet DOT minimum interior size if it were to be legally used by the driver or co driver some fudging to the exterior scale was necessary. a couple of inches here and a couple of inches there were hardly noticed but some guys elected to install full sized sleepers on their scaled down tractors which made them look silly because they were wider than the rest of the truck. But using a dually pickup chassis partially solved this as their tires were 98" to the outside of the sidewalls a 1 ton cab& chassis was only 88" outside of the bulge on the tires so cut down sleepers were used while still being able to maintain an interior width of more than 75 inches Scaled down trucks could cost as much as their full sized counterparts if built correctly.
I much prefer to use older pre 1960 semi trucks cabs and only cut down the front fender radiuses hoods and grills with sleepers being cut down by 6 inches in width and no longer than 42inches the smaller cabs of the older trucks do not require being chopped except in some cases the height, to achieve the appearance of a miniaturized tractor.
the current sizes of todays pickups actually have wider cabs with more room then most Semis the exception being the stupid looking low roofs and sloped windshields on pickups
