I witnessed the same thing back in the 80's at a mud bog competition at Redbud TNT in Michigan. Total power failure to the steering and brakes. Guy came out the other side of the mud bog and shot into the crowd. He ran over a dozen people but there were no serious injuries aside from a person that fell out of the back of a lifted pickup that was parked away from the track but close enough to see. Balloon tires are still pretty soft so it didn't crush anyone too badly. They installed 24" dia logs all the way along the run the next week.
