True, A-2 will distort less than O-1, I always purchase oversized stock to allow for the distortion of the heat treating process whether it be O-1 or A-2, It just happened that I had a piece of O-1 that size on hand.
I ran across this guy a couple of years ago and he had oversize O-1 flat stock up the ying yang, all different thicknesses and widths, and they were all anywhere from 2-3 foot bars, 3/8" - 1" in thickness.
Needless to say why all the tools I have made and posted here are made from O-1 Steel.
