If you don't get a full answer to no.2 , You could try the guys at The Traditional Tools Group Inc.(I think you are on the right track for welding pipes in situ.) If there is a makers mark it will be a lot easier. if those guys(TTTGI) want to charge, You can try searching via the "Australian Woodsmith" who often answer such queries via TTTGI.
