Hmm, I'd try haberdasery dept in material store, often there's large metal buttons available. Alternatively perhaps coins would look good for the task. Source some brass or silver wire then twist it around a rod then cut lengthways to make links. Maybe a jewelers supplies for the catch/clip would supply what u need, even a hardware store might have a sutiable catch.
