    New Kid on the Block

Hi All! I found this forum while looking for some hints on how to build a blade guard for my old Craftsman Model 113 table saw. I recently added a Vega Model 50 fence to this saw (lousy instructions, good product) and replaced the original miter gauge with an Incra. It’s now actually a decent saw, but I get a little nervous not having a blade guard to use when I need it.

I am a retired analytical chemist and a long-time amateur woodworker and DIYer, including simple home modifications, some electric, some plumbing, drywall repair, painting, refinishing and anything else I think I can get away with. I have collected a lot of tools, mostly used, and I inherited a home-built disc-belt sander and lathe from my dad. I recently rebuilt the stand for the sander and put on a new motor because the old one burned up (quite literally). I also recently built four Harbor Freight mobile tool bases (I must love terrible directions) for my bigger tools using square steel tube as the stringers. The rest of my big tools include a 1965 DeWalt radial arm saw, a Delta drill press, Delta jointer, old Craftsman 12” band saw, DeWalt scroll saw, Ridgid miter saw and a homemade router table. I also have the usual array of small electric tools and hand tools.

I build a lot of Shaker oval boxes and picture/poster frames and some furniture. I also build/modify lots of items for my wife who is a quilter. I have also designed and built my own coffee roaster (topic for another forum). Next up is a quilt ladder and a mobile stand for my Ryobi planer which is too dang heavy to be picking up and hauling around every time I want to use it.

I am looking forward to learning and being inspired by the forum members and I hope I can contribute a few tidbits here and there.
