Hi, I am a retired mechanical engineer, always looking for ways to keep the mind and body occupied
Hi 933cat,
Welcome! :welcome:
Keeping busy is a good thing, no doubt. What sort of homemade tools do you find most interesting?
Are you working on anything currently?
Ken
Hi Kbalch,
Thanks for the welcome!
I find interesting any tools dealing with metal fabrication. At the present time I am fabricating aluminum side rails for the aluminum flat bed on my pickup. It is slow going because I am having trouble getting my aluminum welding skills to a point where I am satisfied it them.
Paul
Hey Paul,
Aluminum welding can be challenging. Are you using TIG or some other technique?
Lots of guys here have the expertise to offer advice. Post a few pics of your welds in our Tools In Progress subforum and you're sure to receive some tips.

I am still in the process of setting up a general purpose hobbyist machine shop in half of my 1 car garage. I've got most of the basic tools ( lathes, milling machine etc but I want to properly finish the projects, ( engine turned ) and perhaps hobble a few gears. Any tool that looks like it would add to my capability is fair game.
I am a Locksmith, Gunsmith, Machinist, Shooter, NRA Pistol Instructor, old biker.. I like Hunting, Fishing, and Camping. Live in W. V.
