    Jimmygee's Tools

    Wink Newby from Adelaide Australia

Hi, this is my first time posting to this site though I've looked at it from time to time.

I have made a tool which I felt I should share with you all.

My background is as a tradesman, I have fixed (tampered with) everything from jet fighters to wine bottling equipment to pumps to machinery in the auto industry, I currently work in the ship building industry.

I have been lucky enough to do a job I love. I just love fixing and making things. It still astounds me that the skills myself and other like me have seem to becoming rarer and rarer, it's a shame.

Anyhoo, I'm a keen cyclist and as some of you may know there are two left hand threads on a bike, one of which should be torqued, the other, one of the pedals is not too critical, but the bottom bracket bearings needs to be torqued and one of the is a leftie. I've been told it's not that critical, but I like the thought of doing a job properly, do it once, do it right.

My torque wrench has a 3/8 drive which doesn't push right through as some I've used and so I invented an adaptor to allow me to use it upside down/back to front, if you like.

The tool is used by fitting it to the torque wrench as shown, allowing the wrench to be used upside down.

There's no need to recalculate the torque if the tool is fitted at 90 degrees to the line of the wrench no torque value calculation is required as the moment arm length remains more or less the same, and as most torque wrenches are only accurate to about ± 5 % its good enough for most applications .

one picture shows the adaptor, one shows a drawing of it attached to the torque wrench, one pic shows how it rotates and works. I hope this all makes sense, I haven't posted this before anywhere, so any questions, please ask.

    thanks for looking.
