Plasma is about the worst thing to use when cutting thick metal and needing a perfectly perpendicular cut
Never try to tell me it can't be done
When I have to paint I use KBS products

Yep. Since the plasma stream is spinning it tends to run to one side. This leaves a pronounced bevel on one side of the cut.

Yup. Even waterjet cuts a wedge. Some of the higher end machines can tilt the head so that the finished side of the cut is perpendicular to the material (at the expense of the other side).

I made a CNC flame cutter years ago. It was just a 2 axis machine though. It didn't have any of the fancy stuff like the ability to tilt the torch.

Actually I should have said a near perfectly perpendicular cur as even the kerf of an oxy fuel flame will show some variation in very thick metals such as in making cuts through metals over 6 or 8 inches thick. But with a properly cleaned tip and the correct mixture and pressure settings the variation is negligible

Unbelievable what a "clean" tip does, I worked with a welder who was a fanatic about having a clean tip. When he cut 1/2" plate you could cut yourself on the edge if you were not careful.
