So what's the problem with just brushing the can rim after you pour? It takes less time and there's less paint waste. All the paint on the tape just gets thrown away. this looks like it would be messier. Also, that paint left on the rim and label make it easier to identify the color.

Some of the paints that I use if you just wipe the rim without taking a rag dipped in a strong solvent like Xyline Acetone or MEK several times to completely cleant the grove you will never get that can open again.
