I'd like to have seen his hasty descent (I think I would, anyway)... I hope he didn't get injured.

I tried my hand at tree trimming/topping when in my latter 20s... I threw in the towel after topping a 60' Fir in Corvallis, OR... I didn't like the fact that when topping and chunking a tree down that (really fast moving) saw chain is at neck level, and I want to keep my neck intact.

What was that fuzz that caught fire?
It looked like it would have burned out quickly but
I am concerned if he got down alright?

Looked like he just leaned back to get his body/clothes out of the way and let his boots provide protection long enough for those fibers to burn out. At least that's what it looked like at the end when he just extended his belt and leaned out.

Some species of palm trees have that fibrous fuzz all over them Best fire starter you can ever use. An extremely low ignition point and as combustible as gasoline.
Just the heat created from a dull chain cutting through the tree could be enough to ignite it.
If it had been me up there you would have seen a chain saw go flying then I would have set a speed record descending the tree probably so fast my climbing rope would have only made contact 2 or 3 times. I hope the guy in the video got down ok.
Never try to tell me it can't be done
