My area has suffered two tornados and a derecho in the past three months, two last summer.

The previous last tornado was in 1986...times have changed my friend.

We've had some Straightline winds in the 90MPH range several times and a tornado went through here in 1903 that took out the entire town that used to be about half a mile from me.
As far as times changing I disagree weather patterns happen in rotating cycles what disrupts those cycles is cutting the tops off of mountains clear cutting forests and cities, The larger and higher cities grow the more they resemble a mountain to the global weather causing shifts in atmospheric circulation. The best thing that could ever happen to this planet would be for something to trigger another mini-ice age

I'm confused, money wasted? Are you saying because you didn't have a claim the insurance should have been free?

How many pages comprise a rental agreement; at least there is a degree of certainty a roof is included. Insurance? Greatly multiplied, mainly to submerge all the "but if's".
Like Frank and hurricanes, my former SoCal residency and earthquake schemes, or failure here (Midwest) on a full homeowner package against high force winds, I guarantee insurance companies have less satisfied customers than pleased.
Remember Yellow Pages? How many agents filled those and continue to do so; just outside pyramid scams.
Ever look into what kind of social acts they invest in?
Expenditures on my part without ANY form of compensation irritates an aware consumer. Typical advertisements laud rate reductions as a lure, do they not? Is not the same scheme made part of a yearly good driver percentage?
If I work for the funds to secure a service (differentiating from products), then so must they to retain me.
I'm betting we have entirely opposite interactions and reactions with providers, offering 'protection'.
A well known organization used precisely this pitch. But extortion doesn't operate with an umbrella of lobbyist initiated regulations.
