There’s an old saying in aviation that pilots only need a well trained cat, duck, and dog in the cockpit when they fly. The cat tells him the up and down orientation, the duck tells him direction, and the dog is there to bite him if he touches any knobs or buttons.
I’ve been down in those avionics bays of all different makes and models of aircraft, and I have never heard that it’s standard airline procedure for flight crew members to enter that area. This much I can say, when everything is up and running it’s immensely noisy down there when all the equipment cooling fans are running in their racks.
