Bread (and ensuing need to slice, knives) predate pool noodles, and "expert class pool noodle user".

There is contention what edge slices bread best. We've a 60's era straight long stainless blade with needle like saw teeth, does fine on real bread like French, German, Italian. Lesser loaves go for that rounded wavy UUUUUUU edge (exact opposite of serrated VVVVVVVV).
