We have similar hand-held machines for facing stainless steel tubing in preparation for welding, the original Swagelok corded one's are a PITA to use in-situ, so we use another brand of cordless machines https://www.orbitalum.us/RPG-1-Tube-Facers/ for most jobs.
There are few machining processes that portable machines can't perform. The only limit is size.
Portable lathes, journal squirrels, milling, keyseaters, broaching, pipe chamfering, hot tapping, line boring...
I don't think certain industries could exist or reinstate services without them; especially marine and petroleum.
Sincerely,
