pier, this is a great looking project. The blade frame and feed weight arrangement is very good, excellent addition with jack-screw on the vise too. Is there incorporation for blade lift on return strokes?
My preference for heavy material leans to power hacks - less expensive for super quality blades, way less floor space for same capacity.
May be biased...often used a 36" (with 2 or 3 tpi) monster owned by our collective Uncle Sam.

Top work excellent finish, I like the design. My attempt at a power hacksaw failed, i tried building one with 12" I beam stand and an inch box section framed top and slide, i even went as far as buying a 60 rpm geared AC motor. Sadly my ambition out weighed my ability and it cut great dog legs.
It looks like you have butchered a lathe head stock for the drive is this correct.
Its a fantastic build, all praise to you - it looks like it will serve you well.
