Precision Adjustable Vise Hold Downs For Machinist Vise 3 Inch

I saw Craig9's nice vise hold downs and it reminded me of a project of mine that was on the back burner.

    Vise holddowns

Mine is very similar to Craig9's with a twist. I wanted to add adjusters (just 4 allen cap screws) so that the vise could be pushed a slight amount so it would be easy to indicate in. It always took me too much time using the "tap it in" method.

Made from 6061 aluminum bar stock it just requires some drilling and milling. The print is for my particular vise so the dimensions may need
to be adjusted for other brands. 10-32 cap screws since that is very convenient for my little mill plate.

It took me all of 1.5 minutes to dial it in within .0005". Could not believe how fast this worked compared to my "tap it in method".

The last picture just shows what I used to use for the vise hold downs.

So here are the pics and a .pdf of the print.

    Happy machining.

Love the "pusher" idea! Even after all these years it still hurts me when I see the indicator needle jumping abruptly to every tap! ManyTHANKS.

Thanks Saltfever, I always had the same feeling. I would always hold the indicator pin off the vise while "tapping".
I think this is a great way to set up the vise and I have found that it is much faster for me.

    Cheers, JR
