Quick release lathe bed stop modification
Hi All
The bicycle seat clamps turned up from eBay. But unfortunately, they were not that strong. So, a trip to a scrap yard and there was a solid looking clamp which has worked a treat from an old bike. I didn’t want to modify the exsiting stop (just in case the new clamping method was not strong enough to stop the carraige from moving the stop along the bed) So decided to use a 3/8” BSW grub screw in the existing thread of the brass clamp nut and tapped it M6 to suit the seat clamp. This also worked out well as the seat clamp screw was not long enough to reach the grub screw when it was flush with the top of the nut. So extending the gub screw out of the brass enabled the clamp screw to be used. A top hat steel bush was turned to fit in the counter bore that the original socket head cap screw fitted. The quick release clamp works a treat.
I would like to thank JR for the initial idea from this post:bow:http://www.homemadetools.net/forum/m...er-screw-50792
