Those poor spindle bearings. Every time I see someone welding on a lathe I cry a little.

How about the chuck? Looks like they might have put a rag over the ways, but that welding current also probably a funky path through the three jaws and the worm ring and the screws.

Oh, this is probably the welding lathe ... so it's ok ...

It's efficient. Welding can ruin all three of those things simultaneously.
