Growing up poor with a desire to hotrod, we chained the head to a tractor, and had someone stand on it while dragging it down the hard road. Then make our final pass with a huge file and sandpaper. Of course these were cast iron heads - Probably wouldn't need to drag an aluminum one - File and sandpaper only.
