Not seeing the "dangerous" part myself, grab a pack on your shoulder, move over to the valley (the rope bit is for effect) and off load...any difficulty along the way you drop on all four, square up and move on.

As have I and therefore KNOW it is dangerous as you also do given that you identified the danger by giving an example of what to do for "any difficulty". Walking on a tar-papered 12/12 roof IS inherently dangerous.

I guess "dangerous" is relative...I've seen more guys electrocuted then have fallen off.

Roofing work is inherently dangerous, what we are discussing is what that particular roofer is doing and what I'm saying (as an ex-roofer) is there many more dangerous things you can do up there than his shingle transfer method.
