I love Rube Goldberg machines. They're stupid in the smartest imaginable way.

I used to coach a "science olympic" team when I was teaching. It was fun to watch kids dream up crazy things to do. All I did was help them construct their devices without cutting off their fingers. Also had try to help them over a bump in the road or help them analyse why their idea did not work the first time.
