    (ahem) Correct term for cutting sheet metal lengthwise is slitting. Those long rolls often seen on flatbed trucks can be result of this operation, including slit again to feed a production line. That rolling blade is just a real good pizza cutter.
    Variety of metal shear called a "Gap Shear" can theoretically do this edwise cut, though not so efficiently or with minimal buckling as slitters.
