Simple Water-butt Filter
With water charges so high in the UK I use a water-butt supply for my pressure washing.
Problem is it is dirty water which not good for the machine and soon clogs its tiny filter.
Commercial filters seem a bit pricey so decided to make one.
Using a piece of 40mm PVC waste pipe with an access stop end and a brass fitting which will take a hose, a few cross holes drilled in the pipe and filled with some rolled up scotchbrite pads (not too tightly) it is easily cleaned.
Tip: Suppliers cleverly make you buy connectors for joining same size fittings to pipework but with a heat gun on the pipe the same size fitting will easily push into the pipe and shrink to a tight fit. Handy if you are stuck without the adapters to hand.

Great idea, using the scotchbrite pad as a filter media

I cut circles of scotch Bright pads and make filters for the return drain on my sink style mechanics parts washers. They are very effective in collecting debris before the fluid returns to the drum. They will eventually clog up but it’s easy enough to take them out and clean them with a blast of compressed air.
