    Soldering iron tip

New parcel from AE has just arrived after 6 months. 2 x 16 LCD display. Need to do some very fine soldering (16 Pins) to connect a I2C module to it. This reduces the 16 input pins to 4 input pins bla bla bla..

when checking on my soldering iron...well known brand with screw in tips it was well past its soldering electronics and only suited for tinning wire. So no easy home made solution to new tips.

But it turned out not that difficuilt.

    1) It turned out to be a M4 x 0.75 tread. standard M4 is usually 0.7mm pitch.

fortunately I have one of those very cheep set of tap and dies, but with all the sizes.

Good enough to recut brass screw, but not all the way....

Left a few 0,7 treads so I can screw the nut back on again, in order to be used when ever you want to remove the tip again. Will solder to tip the first time I use it. Once cold this will be fixed so can use a spanner to remove.

    Done...

Aren’t those the*coolest* things? Back in my day, a 3-axis gyro would’ve taken a bushel-basket of space (and money) and a week of time for driver development.

Takes me a month to get it to work.

Lots of reading up. Not from the digital age, but like to try and keep up.

Want so see if I can build a level to attach to my drill, that will actually display the actual angle of the drill.

Not sure what to use as a display...4 x 7 Segment or a 0.96 OLED. Must be compact...
