Hi Jim, 19 gauge needles can be bought from chemist shops, or failing that, ask your GP for a strip. They are dirt cheap, and too big to be used for other nefarious purposes. Individually packed and sterile. But they have razor sharp cutting edges and a very sharp point. Ideal for cutting down onto splinters, surprisingly painless if done under magnification. Surgical "tweezers" are excellent, but you would not like the price for good ones. I remember paying $AUD 200 for a pair of microsurgical tweezers, decades ago. They sometimes appear on Ebay. I have tried a lot of things, but not all. But so far I have found the edge of my folding knife to be the winner. Even got a splinter out that I couldn't see because it was under the fold of a palm print .

I had a commercial version of this. The magnification aspect worked great but it was let down by poor tweezers. I now use better tweezers and a jewellers loupe.

I just bought some of these. The tweezers aren't very strong, but are fine for small splinters. I assembled splinter kits with a selection of surgical tools and loupes that I use for serious splinters.

Check out "Uncle Bill's Sliver Grippers". 'Have used them for years here in the shop, and they're the best I've found so far.
