Spray booth made from an old Dot-Matrix printer box.

I got this old Dot-Matrix printer box from my FIL. The clear plexi lid hinges up out of the way nicely.

I repurposed an old range vent fan motor and cage to draw out the fumes. The problem was adapting the old vent to a 4" flexihose to get the fumes out of the shop.

1st step was cutting a close-out panel out of some sheet aluminum and screwing that to the vent.
The adapter I built out of heavy cardboard I scavenged from a Kodak film box. Bent and cut to fit and glued and riveted together, it serves the purpose well.

The vent draws fresh air from the grille on the left side of the box.

I used old wire speaker grilles with a couple of layers of medium ScotchBrite cut to fit the hole and pressed in as a "filter".
The booth works great and keeps 95% of the fumes and overspray out of the shop.

Any thoughts given to flammable and explosive mixtures and the ignition source in the fan motor?

Nope... The vent motor is from a range hood and it is still sealed apart from the fumes it is venting. I use an airbrush 99% of the time so there really isn't a fume problem unless I am painting something bigger. I am still using it with no explosions so far so I will keep my fingers crossed.
