Didn't Mussolini have people running ahead of him doing this so he wouldn't have to look at dead leaves on trees? Kinda like putting makeup on your dead grandmother's corpse.

Uhhhmm. Doesn't paint seal the grass and prevent photosynthesis? Just like laying a tarp or plywood on grass? I think this would damage the grass and prevent proper growth.

My neighbor across the street used to do this to his lawn and the grass in the median strip between our houses. There is St Augustine grass there, so it is one of the first to go brown and one of the last to green up. (Even with plenty of mid-western water.) The paint was specifically designed for stadium grass and did not seem to hurt the grass at all.
As I recall, he applied one coat in the fall and it lasted until the natural green took over in the spring. He moved and the tradition ended - I moved that same winter, so I did not try to take over.
It was more pleasant to look at than the brown St Augustine.
