Even watching frame by frame I couldn't tell what caused the molten metal to explode. The beginning of the explosion seems to appear just before traveling under the duct work

My guess would be moisture or water dripping in the molten pot causing explosive steam.

It appears that one guy was hit, to the right of the truck, throwing his arm up, before running away. I thought the driver might be heroically returning to evacuate the truck, but perhaps he just went back for a possession!
