A Strap Buckle

Making strap buckles requires a saw, a file, and a drill. Material consists of square tubing, a nut, and a bolt.

would a buckle like this be strong enough to make a loop to attach a hook after a strap has been cut? New straps are about 15$ complete with ratchet so it is hardly fair to expect a cobbler to sew a new end and still be less than 15$.

My buckle was made from thin walled aluminum. It would be a lot stronger if made from 1/8-inch thick steel tubing. As to "strong enough", I have no idea. I certainly would NOT use it where life is involved.

As for sewing, I do heavy duty sewing with my Speedy Stitcher Sewing Awl (https://rick.sparber.org/SewingStrap.pdf). This is the real one which is made in the USA and not the one from Harbor Freight. I bought mine at Ace as part of a kit and it was only $25.
