The Chemical Dipping Process
Chemical dipping usually involves a multi-stage, multi-day process:
- Stage 1: Alkaline Dip (Paint/Grease Removal): The vehicle is submerged in a large alkaline-based stripper tank for 1–2 days to remove grease, paint, and old undercoating.
- Stage 2: Acid Bath (Rust Removal): The tank is then moved to an acid bath to remove all rust.
- Stage 3: Neutralization and Inhibition: The tank is neutralized in another bath to stop the acid, followed by a final dipping in a water-based rust inhibitor, which protects the bare metal for up to 30 days until it can be primed.
