    Swing Up Threading Tool

Here is a swing up lathe threading tool that I built to make threading faster and more accurate

the concept is to run threading tool to length and then without having to disengage threading mechanism from lathe just stop spindle and run in reverse. the threading tool disengages and swings up a bit to clear thread then when its clear of part stop and run spindle in correct direction adjust and move in thread and start over ... here are pictures and a video will be attached soon

    Bernard,
Nice work. I could use this tool when machining metric pitch threads with my lathe. Cutting metric threads my lathe requires keeping the lead screw split nut fully engaged at the end of each cut and requiring reversing the lathe before starting the next cut (probably more typical of cutting metric threads with imperial lead screw lathes).
Thanks you for the ideas, Paul

I have the same problem as Paul with my lathe for metric and I like your simple solution. Time for some more tool making. Randy
