Table for vertical sawing on 4 x 6 bandsaw

Since I bought my 7" x 12" Jet horizontal bandsaw, my little 4 x 6 has been sitting idle. I decided to make a sturdy table for it so I could do some vertical sawing.

I decided that the simplest approach was to use some 1/4" mild steel plate for a base and a table, and some 4" x 4" x 1/4" thick angle iron for a column. I drilled two 3/8" diameter holes in the saw frame to bolt the base down. The result is an extremely rigid table that could be removed for horizontal sawing (or blade changes) in seconds by removing the two bolts. I plan to use it pretty much for vertical sawing however.

It would be nice if you showed pictures of the way you constructed this. And described each step.

I'm not sure how I can explain it in any simpler terms. There are three pieces that are welded together as shown. The mounting plate and saw frame are drilled for 3/8" bolts as shown. A slot is cut in the rear of the table as shown.

Nice! Simple design eliminates futzing with the lower bearing assembly! Did you keep that assembly intact, hidden behind the vertical column?

The photo shows every detail you could possibly need. If you click on the photo, it enlarges and shows the construction details very clearly. If you download the photo, you will find the raw image is 20" x 25", which is probably larger than the real table. Enlarged to that size you can see all of the details you could possibly need.

You can even estimate sizes of things based on what you know. Knowing he used 4 x 4 x 1/4 angle for the column, you can guess the base is about 1/4 x 4 x 5. Which is close enough as you will need to make yours to fit your application.
