I just discovered this thread; so I have a lot of backtracking to do. And on top of that my sound card just died. But that won't stop me. My motivation. a 7" cataract with a 6 position turret ships soon. The beauty of these early lathes is that they come apart easily for shipping by the likes of USPS, UPS and FEDX. Mine is a later v-belt variant which will enable me to use an old variable speed cone mechanism which, with suitable brackets, will slant up and back like a Myford lathe to the countershaft with the drive motor down underneath. The fun is beginning already. EdW

Sounds very cool. Mine is very old... according to a website in the UK it's pre-1907
