Try not to think of the flimsy angle iron cages as armor so much, as a false outline structure for concealment once the tank is on a firing location. Just toss some brush from the general area over the framework and the tank becomes part of the landscape. With camouflaged netting and a thick enough layer of brush add in a few hundred sand bags to reasonably protect you from small arms fire and you have an area on top of the tank to stretch out a little better than inside of the tank.
