That's a good point. Sadly, the idiot-proofing process undertaken by engineers is usually overtaken by an inexhaustible supply of ever-incapable idiots!

There have been emergency situations where an interlock prevented the driver from escaping, and that has to favor not preventing a car from moving with the door open.

That thought and vague memories of reading about such things decades ago prompted this middle-of-the- night post.
