Thread grinding gauges
Does anyone know a source for angle and pitch gauges so that I can grind my own thread cutting tools for use on my lathe. Enquiries to some of the tap and die suppliers have resulted in ludicrous cost quotations eg a gauge for 1/4 NPT £527 + vat !!!! est result would be a set of drawings which i could have accurately drawn up into etching transfers then i can make my own
Anyone got any thoughts...... I'm particularly after acme threads i know the angle is 29 degrees but pitch is the problem

Hi,
It's not very well explaind what you need.
Is it the steel piece with the form of the thread cutting tool ?

If it's what you have on the second picture, then it's a very usual tool, you can found it by every sellers of material for the lathe.
The first one is a very fine tool for extreme precision, but I don't know if you can found it on the market, normally it is selfmade.

Yes its the second one I'm after but I need one with the NPT thread i can easily get the larger acme metric and imperial sizes but the NPT thread here in UK seems to be not readily available bsp thread is more common here . I can buy tap and dies for NPT. I'm also having difficulty in getting info on 1" X 8 tpi dies or gauges. My thought is I'm looking in the wrong places

You can eventually ask them if you are loooking for something special, they are specialised in threading products.
