    Neat idea, but with scrap dealers paying 25 cents a pound for old batteries, is it worthwhile?

    He's not from around here, so maybe they don't pay that much where he is? Or maybe they want more for a toolbox than he'd get for the battery? Could be lots of reasons. He may even be smelting the scrap for lead...

    Agree. Sulfuric acid is too useful to just dump. And pretty expensive to buy.

    So - how did he know when he washed all of the sulfuric acid away?

    His toes weren't burning.

    IF you watched closely, there was not much liquid in the battery when he initially dumped it on the ground. There was no "Fizzing" as there would have been if it was acid. He very likely had already dumped and saved the acid before he shot the video. Scrappers are after the lead components, connectors and plates. He can still recycle those IF there is someplace that takes them.

    I am certainly not positive about any of this, but those are my thoughts on the situation.
