We've seen videos of several of these truck-on-tracks disasters. Now, anyone who has been close when a freight train highballs past can't help but be terrorized by the thought of being hit by one.

So, can someone who knows more than I about trucks explain how these trucks come to be stopped on the tracks ? Surely, if you feel your engine acting imperfectly, the last thing you'll want to do is drive onto some RR tracks. Do automotive engines stop/seize so instantaneously that you're stopped dead in your tracks while making a crossing ? Do parts of the vehicle get caught in the tracks like a bear stepping into a trap ? Or is the dumbing down of America so advanced that people think it's a good idea to park on RR tracks ?

The trailer must have been disconnected because the tractor never moved when the hit occurred.

Also it looked as though the landing gear may have been high-centered. Wouldn't be the first big truck to get stuck on tracks that way. Looks like the truck tried to pull to the side, this might have caused it to become high-centered. Little screen here, hard to tell.

It appears the truck and the front of the trailer tilt away from the camera, like they're perhaps stuck on the side of the road or in a ditch. This occurred late in 2019 Just South of Baton Rouge in White Castle: https://www.wbrz.com/news/incredible...rville-parish/

these types of trucks also have air brakes.... air is what holds the brakes in the released position so it can move. If an air hose broke or came disconnected, the brakes are locked on until air pressure resumes. So that is one possible reason.
More likely is that it got high centered or caught on the tracks.
The driver may have released the 5th wheel pin lock so that the trailer would come off when the train hit, and save the tractor portion.
