I woould prefer a closed bucket, what could go worng?

Not to be critical, but I am thinking you would not be working as a roughneck on a drill rig. As mentioned previously that ride to the rig is the safest part of their day.

I am betting they would never enter a "closed bucket". How do you propose to get out if it falls into the sea?
