Two Sets of Parallels from one set. Milling vise accessory

I have the need for parallels that are 2.5" long by 1/8" thick and another set that is 3.5" long for a larger vise.
These sizes will be just right to hang over the vise by enough length but not too long. I have been using my 6" set of parallels
for all my work on the mill and really need a shorter set. So for $29.00 I bought a set of 6 inchers and cut them to 2.5" and 3.5" loosing only
about 1/8" for the cut. Now I have two sets that are a perfect fit for both the 2" Sherline vise and the 3" Machinist vise.

The three largest parallels are too big for either vise so I left them long to be used with other milling vises as needed.

After cutting with the cutoff grinder I used the disc sander to clean up and square the ends. Not perfect but it is obvious which end has been cut and which end is factory.

    Cheers, JR

I did the same thing with one of my 4" vises, the 6" parallels were ok most of the time but once in a while they got in my way so I cut them down to 4.5"

Yep, makes working with the small vises more convenient and the thin parallels are very reasonable in cost.
