never mind
How about using a lonnnnng screwdriver?
I will have to give this a try. I have a couple screwdrivers with concave handle ends, so it is easy to apply upward pressure with one finger while repositioning my other fingers, but there are the blind situations as you describe. The sock makes it rather automatic

I must be missing something, here. Instead of a sock, I've been using masking tape to attach the screw to the driver... to hold it in place, until the screw is driven all the way in.
